Broncodil Syrup 100Ml

COMPOSITION

Each teaspoonful (5ml) contains Salbutamol Sulphate B.P. equivalent to 2mg Salbutamol In an apple flavored sugar free solution. 

INDICATIONS

Asthma and other conditions associated with reversible airway obstruction. 

PHARMACOLOGY

Salbutamol Sulphate is a directly acting sympathomimetic agent with predominantly beta-adrenergic activity and a selective action on the Beta-2 (ß2) receptors. It is predominantly a ß2 receptor stimulant and has more selective action. Its Broncho dilating action being relatively more prominent than its effect on the heart. 

METABOLISM

Salbutamol is readily absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract and does not subject to sulphate conjugation in the gut. It is subject to first-pass metabolism in liver and about half is excreted in the urine as an inactive sulphate conjugate following oral administration. The plasma half-life of salbutamol has been estimated to range from about 2 to as much as 7 hours. 

ADVERSE EFFECTS

Salbutamol may cause fine tremor of skeletal muscle (particularly the hands), palpitations and muscle cramps. Slight tachycardia, tenseness, headaches and peripheral vasodilatation have been reported after large doses. 

PRECAUTIONS

Salbutamol should be used with caution in hypersusceptible patients or those with hyperthyroidism and in patients with diabetes mellitus, serious cardiovascular disorders or hypertension. 

INTERACTIONS

There is a risk of hypokalemia when high doses of theophylline or corticosteroids are given with higher doses of salbutamol. Beta blockers and Cardiac glycosides also have possible interactions with salbutamol.
