VITAMIN B COMPLEX WITH IRON SYRUP

Durol is a yellow to amber coloured, orange flavored, iron and multivitamin nutritional supplement designed for adults.

INDICATIONS

Durol is indicated for states of Iron and Vitamin B deficiencies. Also, to meet increased requirements of Iron and Vitamin B complex during: convalescence, adolescence, chronic blood loss, inadequate dietary intake and menstrual blood loss. This may occur with hemorrhoids, long term salicylate ingestion, peptic ulceration, hiatus hernia, diverticulosis, ulcerative colitis, esophageal varices, gastritis, inflammatory bowel disease, familial telangiectasia and hemorrhagic states. In the tropics, hookworm infection is a major cause of gastrointestinal blood loss. Dietary insufficiency, specially at times when there is increased physiological demand such as during periods of rapid growth, convalescence or pregnancy, is also likely to play a part in the aetiology of iron deficiency and megaloblastic anaemias.

SIDE EFFECTS

Constipation, Diarrhea, Nausea.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Durol is contraindicated in persons who are hypersensitive to any of its constituents.

ADVERSE EFFECTS

Iron salts may cause gastrointestinal irritation. Nausea and epigastric pain may occur. Oral iron may cause altered bowel habit, resulting in constipation or diarrhea. Administration with meals may reduce these effects. Black coloration of stools may occur. Toxicity due to prolonged administration of iron may result in an iron overload (haemochromatosis). A normal individual is able to control iron absorption despite high intake. It is only individuals with underlying disorders which increase iron absorption that run the risk of iron overload with oral iron administration. Adverse reactions to B Complex vitamins are rare. Hypersensitivity reactions with Thiamine (Vitamin B1) are rare and have been reported mostly with parenteral administration. Allergic reactions to pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) have been reported. Treatment with cyanocobalamin may unmask signs of polycythemia vera.

OVERDOSAGE

Large amounts of iron intake are toxic. The water-soluble vitamins (B complex and C) seldom cause toxicity in persons with normal renal function.

PRECAUTIONS

Information for the consumer: Because toxic reactions have been reported with the injudicious usage of iron and vitamins, consumers are urged to follow the suggested dosage or physician's advice. Consumers are cautioned against the concomitant use of tetracyclines or its analogues with iron compounds in order to avoid chelation interaction which should reduce the bioavailability of the antibiotic.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Pyridoxine may interact with levodopa in an antagonistic manner but such antagonism does not occur if a carbidopa/levodopa combination is given.
