Composition Each 5ml of Phenycof Syrup contains Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride U.S.P. 13.5 mg. 

Alcohol 5 %v/v. With Ammonium Chloride, Sodium Citrate, Menthol, Sugar, Raspberry Flavor & Color agents in a Syrup base.  

Indications: Phenycof Syrup is indicated for the relief of cough and congestion due to minor throat and bronchial irritation that may occur with common cold, allergy, bronchitis or with inhaled irritants which can be relieved by the combination of a histamine H I -receptor antagonist and an anti-tussive. 

Pharmacology: Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride is an ethanolamine derivative with the properties and uses of antihistamines (H1 -receptor antagonists). It also has anti-emetic and anti-cholinergic properties. It is also used in cough mixtures. 

Dosage and Administration: Adults: 1 to 2 teaspoonfuls 3-4 times daily. Dosage is to be administered as directed by the physician. Not for pediatric use. 

Absorption & Excretion: Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride is readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Peak plasma concentrations were obtained in 2-4 hours after oral administration. The plasma half-life ranged from 5-8 hours. This is metabolized in the liver and 64% has been excreted as metabolites in the urine after 96 hours. 

Contraindications: Contraindicated in premature or newborn infants, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, patients receiving MAO inhibitors. 

Adverse Effects: The most common effect, caused to some extent by Phenycof is sedation which may diminish after a few days. Other side effects include gastro-intestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation and epigastric pain. 

Precautions: Phenycof may cause drowsiness and patients should not drive or operate machinery. Though there are no objective data available patients using Phenycof should avoid concomitant use of alcoholic beverages and other centrally acting sedatives. 

Pregnancy: Phenycof should be avoided during pregnancy. 

Drug Interactions: Diphenhydramine briefly affects the absorption of baritone and sulphacetamide.
